The African continent celebrates its history and its future

Togo marked African Day 2026 on Friday, a few days early.

The Day will be celebrated on 25 May.

It commemorates the creation of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) in 1963, which later became the African Union.

The aim of the event is to celebrate African unity, promote solidarity among African peoples, showcase African cultures, and reflect on the continent’s challenges and progress.

“Togo will always continue to be a beacon, a land of welcome, sharing and dialogue for our brothers and sisters from the continent and those of the diaspora,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Robert Dussey, during a ceremony bringing together officials and the diplomatic corps.
