LAUNCH OF THE GLOBAL PEACE AND SECURITY ALLIANCE (GPSA) INITIATIVE

  1. The number of threats to international peace and security has increased in recent years, with the emergence of new sources of tension and new forms of conflict. These threats are complex and create situations of insecurity at a time when regional frameworks and international mechanisms for effective crisis and conflict management and response have been significantly weakened.
  1. This worrying situation, which is likely to jeopardise the implementation of international priorities over the long term, calls for a profound rethink, the mobilisation of collective intelligence and bold initiatives to address the major challenges facing peace and security today. More than ever, it is imperative to build strong international alliances and establish effective collaborative frameworks for cooperation to ensure global peace and security. This also requires the development of innovative and resilient mechanisms capable of adapting to the complex challenges of our time.
  1. In this perspective, under the leadership of the President of the Republic, H.E.Mr. Faure Essozimna GNASSINGBE, Togolese diplomacy is launching the Global Peace and Security Alliance (GPSA) initiative within the framework of the Lomé Peace and Security Forum, in partnership with several other forums around the world that are also committed to peace and security.
  1. There are numerous forums and initiatives around the world working to promote international peace and security, but in most cases they operate in isolation from each other. The Global Peace and Security Alliance (GPSA) initiative aims to provide an umbrella framework for dialogue and cooperation among these platforms in order to strengthen collective efforts to promote peace and security at the global level.
  1. Recognising the efforts and achievements of existing peace and security fora and initiatives around the world, the Global Peace and Security Alliance will be positioned as a platform to bring these fora together to address peace and security issues from both continental and global perspectives. The initiative will be dedicated to promoting dialogue, cooperation and collective action among the members of the Alliance, and will act as a catalyst for shaping a more peaceful and secure global environment.
  1. With a focus on cooperation and networking to advance the international peace and security agenda in all regions of the world, the Global Peace and Security Alliance will seek to promote inclusive dialogue and the exchange of knowledge, including best practices, in conflict prevention, peacebuilding and post-conflict reconstruction. It will facilitate the development and implementation of innovative solutions and strengthen the global peace and security architecture.
  1. Through joint initiatives, common projects and the pooling of resources in the interest and service of international peace and security, the Global Peace and Security Alliance will contribute to building a safer and more prosperous world for all. It will bring together peace and security forums and events from Africa, Europe, the Americas and Asia.
  1. The Global Peace and Security Alliance initiative comes exactly one year after the first edition of the Lomé Peace and Security Forum and three years after the Togo Strategy for the Sahel. It will enable Togolese diplomacy within the framework of the activities of the Lomé Peace and Security Forum and the other member forums to help shape the future of global peace and security and work towards a world, where peace is not just an aspiration but a tangible reality.
