On June 18, 2024, the signing ceremony of the agreement between the government of the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe and the Togolese Republic on reciprocal visa exemption for holders of diplomatic, service and ordinary passports took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Togolese Abroad.
This agreement marks the desire of the governments of the two countries, under the authority of Their Excellencies Faure Essozimna GNASSINGBE and Carlos Vila Nova, to strengthen the ties of cooperation and friendship in the interest of their respective peoples.
Through the agreement signed today, holders of all types of passports will be able to travel reciprocally in the two countries, without a visa for stays not exceeding ninety (90) days.
The sealing of this agreement by Their Excellencies Professor Robert DUSSEY, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Togolese Abroad of Togo, and Doctor Gareth Haddad do Espiritu Santo Guadalupe, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Communities of Sao Tome and Principe, will allow the populations of the two countries to intensify exchanges between the two countries in the economic and tourism fields.
On the sidelines of the signing ceremony, the two ministers discussed issues of common interest between the Sao Tome and Principe and Togolese peoples. They discussed the need to strengthen their cooperation in economic and commercial matters as well as in the fight against maritime piracy.
They also discussed issues relating to peace and security in Africa and the world and, in this regard, called for synergy of actions between States in order to curb the scourges of terrorism and violent extremism.
Finally, they discussed the holding of the 9th Pan-African Congress, which will be held from October 29 to November 2, 2024 in LomĂ©, on the theme “Renewal of Pan-Africanism and the role of Africa in the reform of multilateral institutions: mobilizing resources and reinventing ourselves to act“, co-organized by Togo and the African Union, and called for synergy of actions in the preparations for its success.
