1. The inaugural meeting of the Mali Transition Support Group co-chaired by the African Union, ECOWAS and the United Nations was held on November 30, 2020 in Bamako, Mali. It was attended by high-level representatives of ECOWAS member countries, the G5 Sahel and other partner countries and institutions of Mali.
2. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Togolese Abroad, H.E. Prof. Robert DUSSEY took part in the work.
3. This meeting was particularly devoted to the presentation of the priorities of the transition in the implementation of institutional and political reforms and in matters of security and economic development. She also took stock of the state of implementation of the Algiers peace agreement and conducted a comprehensive review of the security challenges in the Sahel in general and in Mali in particular.
4. During the work, Minister DUSSEY, on behalf of the President of the Republic, HE Mr. Faure Essozimna GNASSINGBE, congratulated the African Union Commission and the Government of Mali for this initiative which testifies to the ownership of African problems by the Africans. He expressed Togo’s unwavering support for the initiative and called for the solidarity of African countries and the mobilization of international partners for the consolidation of peace, security and for the lasting entrenchment of democracy in Mali. .
5. For Minister DUSSEY, stability in Mali requires, among other things, massive support for all mechanisms aimed at reducing poverty and improving the social well-being of populations, especially the most disadvantaged groups. the Mali Transition Support Group must coordinate and harmonize the efforts of countries and international partners (the African Union, the Community of West African States, the United Nations, the European Union, the ‘Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Organization of la Francophonie, the African Development Bank, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the G5 Sahel, France, the United States of America, Great Britain, China, Russia, Canada, Germany…) to support the Transitional Government and the Malian people, taking into account the priorities and reforms contained in the Transition Charter.
6. Lomé will host the next meeting of the Transition Support Group in Mali.
